This post is for all those Jewish girls who have more black skirts in their closet’s than days of the week. I am in the same boat. Black skirts are the absolute closet staple for us.
Sometimes though, I put them on and in the mirror I look bland. This isn’t an outfit, I tell myself, but what else am I supposed to wear with this top? Here are four ways to make a black skirt outfit feel anything but basic.
1. Monochrome it
When wearing that black skirt, pair it with a black top. You can go all out on the blouse and wear something textured with poofed sleeves, or more conservative for a simpler look.
You can pair what you wear with simple sneakers, or choose shoes with a pop of color on them. You can wear gold jewelry and give your outfit a classy look, finishing it with a high ponytail.

2. Match it
We all know to match the colors we wear. Don’t wear gray socks, a blue skirt, and a pink shirt. So when wearing your black skirt outfit, pair it with a black layer. This is perfect for fall and spring, when a t-shirt is too cold and a sweater is too warm.

3. Elevate the top
Often when we wear basic black skirts, we pair them with the simplest top we have. A hoodie. A long sleeve t-shirt. Take a moment to slip on that blouse you love and never wear. It will make the whole outfit feel more put together if only the top is.
4. Accessorize it
I can’t say this enough. If you accessorize an outfit properly, it will look good. Add a scarf, nice jewelry, do your hair, wear the right pair of shoes. All of these, or one of these, will make the world of a difference. Doing your hair and makeup can make a black skirt and hoodie look picture ready.
Remember, all of the above tips can be applied to any outfit. Style yourself fully pink. Pair a denim jacket with a blue skirt. Buy, and wear, that amazing blouse that looks slightly ridiculous. Invest in closet staples that aren’t clothes. It will pay back.
And above all, remember to stay tznius, timeless, and tasteful!
