A common question when shopping on fast Chinese fashion sites is: which one should I choose? With so many options out there, I decided to compare two of the biggest players: Shein and Temu. Which has better quality, and which is a better choice for us as Jewish girls looking for modest clothing?

Price

Both stores are known for their affordable clothing. Temu is generally the cheaper of the two, but unless you’re on a very tight budget, the price difference probably isn’t enough to make the decision for you.

Variety of Tznius Items

Shein offers a wider selection of fashion items overall since they focus heavily on clothing. Temu has a smaller general clothing selection, but in my experience, it actually has more modest (tznius) options—and they’re easier to find among the thousands of items.

Quality

This is the big question. Neither site is famous for high-quality clothing, and many reviews suggest that Shein edges out Temu in this department. Personally, I find Temu’s quality just as good. Shein’s pieces tend to be longer, which works better for taller girls, while Temu fits shorter girls (like me) better. Most items from both sites match their pictures and arrive as expected.

Site Experience

Both sites use gamified shopping elements, so it’s easy to spend more time (and money) than intended. This is something to be aware of. If you’re concerned about seeing inappropriate images, Temu’s site feels safer. Shein tends to push more revealing products as compared to them.

Filtering Options

When it comes to shopping filters, Shein wins. They offer many more ways to sort by pattern, fabric type, and other details, making it easier to find exactly what you want.

Personalized Feed

A small but useful note: Temu’s feed quickly adapts to your search behavior. After some browsing, it learns that you’re looking for modest clothing, and will prioritize those items in your feed to a much higher amount than I feel Shein does.

So, Which Should You Choose?

It depends on what you’re looking for. Many products overlap between the two sites, so:

• If you want a personalized feed focused on modest clothing with fewer items to scroll through, Temu is your best bet.
• If you enjoy hunting for a good piece and prefer items generally considered slightly higher quality, Shein is the way to go.
